When you're getting started with Harmony, one of the easiest ways to bring your schedule into view is by giving the app access to your device’s local calendar. This quick step during onboarding allows Harmony to pull in your existing events—so you don’t have to start from scratch.
Your phone's built-in calendar is usually connected to one or more accounts already. Depending on your device, that might be:
By granting calendar access during Harmony’s onboarding process, you can instantly sync events from all calendars connected to your device—without having to link each one individually.
Connecting your local calendar is one of the fastest ways to see your full schedule in Harmony. It’s helpful if:
But it’s not perfect—and it’s important to know the limitations.
To connect your local device calendar to the Harmony app, simply tap “Allow” during the onboarding process to grant calendar access. That’s it! Harmony will pull in your events and help you get started with your personalized family calendar and to-do lists.
You can also manage your local device calendar in Calendar Settings. This is where you can remove the connection or connect to your local device calendar again if previously disconnected. You can also set individual permissions for each calendar that is pulled in from your local device calendar.
Unlike direct calendar connections, device calendars don’t update in real time. Harmony only refreshes local calendar data when the app is open. That means you’ll need to open Harmony for it to pull in the latest events, and updates made elsewhere may not appear until the next refresh.
Still, it’s a great first step while you’re getting set up—and we’ll walk you through how to troubleshoot if needed.
If your events aren’t showing up after connecting your local calendar, here are a few things to try:
Also keep in mind: Harmony pulls in all calendars shown in your device’s calendar app. You can’t select specific ones to display in the app.
If your work uses Outlook and has strict security policies, Harmony may not be able to connect directly—so the local calendar is a great workaround.
While local calendar access is a great start, it’s not the most reliable long-term setup—especially if you want real-time updates. For the most accurate and seamless experience, we strongly recommend connecting your Google, Outlook, or iCloud calendars directly in the Harmony app.
This ensures:
If you’re unable to connect your work calendar directly due to security settings, using your local device calendar is still a solid alternative.
